ABOUT THE ASTA/NJ SOLO COMPETITION (note: please scroll down to view all information on this page).

The ASTA/NJ Solo Strings Competition is an annual statewide event that gives string players the opportunity to compete with others of their own Division for cash prizes, an opportunity to perform on the winner’s recital and, on a bi-annual basis, the opportunity to continue on to the ASTA National Solo Competition. ASTA/NJ judges award one first prize and as many honorable mentions as they see fit per division. ASTA/NJ considers this competition to be a valuable learning experience and asks judges (all first-rate educators and performers in their own right) to provide detailed, written commentary on the performances they hear. All auditions are anonymous (meaning that the judges do not know the name or anything about the person they are listening to) and approximately 12 minutes in duration.

Information regarding eligibility, repertoire and application materials for the ASTA/NJ Solo Competition is found on these web pages.

Please be advised that 2008-2009 is a National Solo Competition year. This requires extra diligence around application deadlines and repertoire selection as the ASTA National organization has *very* strict guidelines for its applicants. ASTA/NJ will do all we can to help you be certain that your application is presented properly and in timely fashion, but ultimately, we cannot be responsible for problems with repertoire selection, application matters and cd recordings once you apply to the national level of this competition.
