GSPYO String Ensemble Conductor Vacancy Announcement


POSITION: String Ensemble Conductor
REPORTS TO: Symphonic Youth Orchestra Conductor
SUPERVISES: Students in the youngest ensemble of the Garden State Philharmonic Youth Orchestras; volunteers.
SALARY: $310/month
JOB SUMMARY: The GSPYO is located in Ocean County, NJ and draws students from several nearby school districts. Three orchestras provide enhanced ensemble and music education experience, and strive to foster a love and appreciation of symphonic music through weekly rehearsals and two concerts per academic year.  Interested applicants should submit a resume and brief coverletter to gspyouth@gardenstatephilharmonic.org.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Artistic
•    Conduct all rehearsals and concerts of the String Ensemble
•    Train students as to the particulars of playing string instruments, i.e.: bowing, intonation, posture, etc.
•    Recruit students for the ensemble
•    Participate in admission and placement auditions
•    Select appropriate repertoire
•    Encourage a love of music

Library
•    Communicate repertoire selections with other staff in a timely manner
•    Prepare rehearsal and practice parts as needed
•    Oversee distribution and collection of music
•    Procure music through the GSP Artistic Director and administrative staff

Other Functions

•    Understand and abide by GSP Policies and Procedures
•    Supervise and work with GSP volunteers
•    Build and sustain healthy relationships with area music instructors
•    Attend mandatory GSPYO Team meetings as scheduled
•    Communicate with GSP artistic and administrative staff and GSPYO Team in a timely and consistent manner

Minimum Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in music performance or education
•    Three years experience teaching string instruments
•    Exceptional musicianship and conducting skills
•    Thorough understanding of youth orchestra environment
•    Strong ability to work and communicate with youth
•    Strong interpersonal skills
