 CONTGRATULATIONS!!!  Brannon Cho and Violetta Norrie - two winners of the ASTA/NJ Solo Competition selected into the semi-final round of the ASTA National Solo Competition!  Congratulations to both of you! We at ASTA/NJ are so very proud of your accomplishments!

2011 ASTA/NJ Solo Competition Application, Eligibility & Related Information

Eligibility:

•All Participants must complete the Online Entry Application Form (CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO ONLINE APPLICATION FORM)
•Applications must be received by November 1, 2011 with non-refundable application fee of $65.00 payable to ASTA/ NJ.
•Participants must be ASTA/NJ members, or current students of ASTA/NJ members.
•Participants must be either residents of NJ, or currently attending school in NJ.
•Participants must show proof of ASTA/NJ membership on the audition day.

Division of competition by age:
•Early Bird Division   age 11and under as of 3/10/2012
•Junior Division A     age 12to 14 as of 3/10/2012
•Junior Division B     age 15to 18 as of 3/10/2012
•Senior Division       age 19 to 25 as of 3/10/2012

Instruments:
•Violin, viola, cello, bass, classical guitar, harp

Prizes:
•$400 for Division Winners who are then invited to perform at a recital in the spring.
•Division Winners and Honorable Mention Winners may be recommended to the ASTA National Solo Competition, which is held in even-numbered years.

Repertoire Guidelines for  2011 ASTA/NJ Solo Competition
•Each applicant is required to prepare two contrasting movements or works at or above the level of selections listed in the ASTA / NJ Solo Competition Suggested Repertoire List below.
•Works are entirely the competitor's own choice.
•Applicants must submit CD’s, using the format described below.
•Piano accompaniment is required except when piano accompaniment is not a part of the composition (i.e. / Bach’s Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin). Concertos must be performed with piano reduction of the orchestral parts.


2011 ASTA/NJ Competition Recordings

A. Each Early Bird, Junior A, and Junior B entrant should present between 12-15 minutes of music. Each Senior entrant should present between 17-20 minutes of music.

B. Recordings exceeding the maximum will be stopped, but entrants will not be penalized.

C. Recordings must be in CD format. Each piece or movement must be recorded without editing. (Editing is permissible between movements/pieces but not within them.) Edited performances will be disqualified. 

Recording in a concert hall or recording studio with professional level equipment is suggested. Concert hall recordings should place the microphone approximately six to eight feet in front and above the contestant. Studio microphone placement will depend on the equipment available.

Contestants should submit as high quality recording as possible.

•Entrants must submit recordings that are clearly labeled (typed) with the entrant’s name, age, address, phone number, instrument, teacher’s name, and works performed. (The labeling should be easy to cover and re-label to allow for anonymous judging.
•No photos on CDs.

•It is strongly urged that entrants retain a copy of their submitted recording in case it is lost in transit. Recordings will not be returned.

•Send CDs, with Authorization Form, $65 entrants fee, and copy of birth certificate to:
